What is Surah Yaseen?
Surah Yaseen is the 36th chapter of the Holy Quran. It contains 83 verses (ayaat), divided into 5 sections (ruku). It was revealed in Makkah, making it a Makki Surah, before the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ migrated to Madinah.
Among all the chapters of the Quran, Surah Yaseen holds a uniquely honoured position. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ referred to it as the “heart of the Quran” — because it beautifully concentrates the core themes of the entire Quran: the Oneness of Allah (Tawheed), the truth of Prophethood (Risalah), and the certainty of the Hereafter (Akhirah).
What Does Surah Yaseen Talk About?
Surah Yaseen can be understood in three major parts:
Part One (Verses 1–12): Allah affirms the Prophethood of Muhammad ﷺ. He swears by the wise Quran that the Prophet is truly on the straight path and sent by the All-Mighty, the Merciful. Allah also describes the spiritual condition of those who refuse to believe — their hearts are sealed and they cannot perceive the truth.
Part Two (Verses 13–50): A powerful parable is told about the people of a town (believed to be Antioch) who rejected the messengers of Allah. One righteous man from the outskirts of the city came running, urging his people to follow the messengers. They killed him, and Allah punished that entire community. This story is a deep warning for those who turn away from Divine guidance.
Part Three (Verses 51–83): The Surah concludes with a vivid description of the Day of Judgement, the rewards of Paradise, the punishments of Hellfire, and multiple signs of Allah’s power in nature — the sun, the moon, ships at sea, and the growth of crops — all pointing to the reality of resurrection and the absolute power of the Creator.

| 3 | Indeed, you [O Muhammad ﷺ] are truly one of the messengers. |
| 4 | On a straight path. |
| 5 | [This is] a revelation of the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. |
| 6 | So that you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned — and so they are heedless. |

| 8 | Indeed, We have placed shackles around their necks, reaching up to their chins, so their heads are forced up. |
